BANESTES is constantly improving the way it handles risk in order to ensure integrated management of the main financial risks, allowing the Bank to achieve its objectives through an acceptable level of exposure without jeopardizing business performance and allocate its capital efficiently in order to maximize shareholder value with the best possible risk/return ratio.
The Bank maintains a risk management and internal control area that is directly subordinate to the CEO, as well as specific units for the assessment and management of credit, market and operating risks, duly separated from the business areas. It also instituted a specific committee to analyze and decide on all matters, both qualitative and quantitative, related to risk management and internal controls, which reports to the Executive Board and Board of Directors.
The Bank also maintains constant training and lecture programs for its employees, including newly-hired personnel, in order to ensure that risk management and internal controls become an integral part of the institution's corporate culture, a process that is strengthened by internal communication channels to disseminate risk management strategy. Preventive measures are also in place, as are recovery measures in the case of process interruption, ensuring the Bank's ability to continue with its business.
The adoption of these procedures underlines the Bank's commitment to the best risk management practices and its compliance with the New Basel Accord (BIS II) and the regulations of the Central Bank of Brazil. |
